ARTIST STATEMENT

Through my art I seek to explore the complexities of womanhood. This includes exploring the traditional gender roles, responsibilities and societal expectations placed upon women that enable masogyny and patriarchy. I also explore the nuances of woman’s-hurt, a concept that looks at the impact of the cultural beliefs and values placed upon women that can cause physical, emotional and psychological pain. My art intends to highlight the struggles of being a women in a society that often ignores, trivializes or downplays the breadth of our varied experiences and unique stories. I want to empower women with visual representations that illustrate the resilience of us all in confronting these struggles and coming through them, with agency, care and compassion.

In my work I want to focus on bringing to light the courage, resilience and strength that is found in all women and to reflect the beauty and power of standing in solidarity with one another.
